The Henry Vandyke Carter Club at Grand Canyon University brings together students passionate about both art and science, creating a unique space to explore the human form through artistic expression and anatomical accuracy. This semester, the club showcased the exceptional work of its members in the Exploring the Human Form: Anatomy & Physiology Art Exhibition, a display celebrating the intersection of art, science, and anatomy.
The featured works are a testament to the talent and creativity of our students, inspired by hands-on sessions in our campus cadaver lab. Members of the club engaged with real bone specimens and fully dissected human bodies to create pieces that highlight both the complexity and beauty of human anatomy. Each artwork is not just an artistic expression but also a visual exploration of the human body’s structures, systems, and their interconnections.
Featured Artists and Their Selected Works:
Marlon Marrero: An abstract and thought-provoking piece symbolizing mindfulness and intellectual intention.
Beth Porten: “Bone Depth” - A charcoal composition showcasing the intricate textures of the human femur.
Carla Vargas: A vibrant hand-drawn illustration of the human heart, highlighting the complexity of the circulatory system.
Esmeralda Corona Clarkson: An expressive drawing of the human hand, blending anatomical detail with abstract art.
Nathaniel Brink: An illustration of the human pelvis, created using both traditional pencil and digital techniques.
Sydney A Hernandez: A graphite drawing exploring the delicate connection between life and death, featuring skulls and flowers.
Ekleshia G Yilma: A powerful drawing capturing the intricate relationship between the heart and lungs, symbolizing grace and vulnerability.
Isabella M Rystrom: A detailed pencil drawing of the human heart, exploring its anatomy with personal reflection on its significance.
Quincy Coet: A striking pencil drawing that blends the human form with skeletal anatomy, creating a visual contrast between life and death.
Dr. Randall D. Ordovich-Clarkson: A finely detailed ink drawing of the human arm, showcasing the intricate musculature, tendons, and veins.
Arika Jacobson: An intricate line drawing representing the connection between the brain, DNA, and heart, symbolizing the intersection of intellect, genetics, and life.
As part of our commitment to recognizing excellence in medical art, students whose works were selected for the exhibition received an Annual Recognition for Excellence in Anatomy & Physiology Art.
